On Tuesday, April 28th, a man carrying a loaded gun was arrested at an event featuring Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. near Los Angeles. The event, which was sponsored by the Climate Mobilization Project, was being held at a venue in the popular tourist destination of Santa Monica. According to police, the man was arrested after he was seen openly carrying the weapon near the event. He was taken into custody overnight and later released after no charges were seen to be applicable in the incident.
The event had been organized to discuss climate change, and featured a speech from Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., as well as Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz and climate activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez. It was apparently attended by several hundred people.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. It is unclear whether the individual had any connection with the event or was simply passing through the area. It has not yet been revealed why he was carrying the weapon.
