A “report card” grading House Republicans on divergent views of Ukraine has been circulating in Washington, DC, highlighting a stark split between the party’s leadership on the issue. The card, which was first reported by Politico, uses letter grades to score whether House GOP members are pro- or anti-aid for Ukraine.
Those receiving a grade of “A” are considered pro-aid, while those with a lower grade are ranked as anti-aid. Republicans with an “A” include House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, Rep. Liz Cheney, and other GOP lawmakers who have publicly supported assistance for Ukraine during the Trump administration. Meanwhile, the anti-aid Republicans, such as Reps. Jim Jordan and Louie Gohmert, are marked at the lower end of the scale, with grades ranging from “D” to “F”.
The card is an indication of the deep rift within the GOP on the issue of Ukraine assistance and reflects the divergent views of the members of the party. While a majority of Republicans support providing aid to the former Soviet republic, others have remained firm in their opposition, citing the corruption within the country as a deterrent. Ultimately, the report card serves as a reminder of the complex dynamics within the Republican Party and the sharp divisions that have been highlighted since the Ukraine scandal began.
