Missouri State Senator Eric Burlison has forcefully denied any involvement with book burning after false claims were made that he was responsible for providing materials to torch at a Republican event held at the Springfield-area JQH Arena.
In a statement, Burlison said he had never been “associated with such an abhorrent and reprehensible practice” and would never condone it. He has gone on to say that he “absolutely would torch any book that was found to be pornographic, woke or bigoted.”
The false claims came after a man posted a photo of Burnison holding what was believed to be a stack of books from an event hosted by the Republican State Committee. The caption of the photo claimed that ‘[Burlison] brought two boxes of books to be burned’ at the event.
However, Burlison was quick to clarify that he had attended the event to speak and that his intent was never to have books destroyed. He also provided proof that his original stack of books was intact when the photos were taken.
While Burlison has since denied any involvement with the destruction of books, he has expressed strong disapproval of any book that promotes “woke” ideologies or pornography.
