Former FBI Counterintelligence Chief Gennaro “Jerry” McGonigal pleaded guilty in a Massachusetts federal court on Wednesday to participating in a scheme to funnel bribe payments to a former congressman and a former lobbyist. McGonigal, 69, was the former head of the FBI’s Counterintelligence and Counterterrorism Divisions, and had been a senior aide to then-FBI Director Robert Mueller. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud. He admitted to conspiring with lobbyist Brian Dumbrell and former Congressman Jack Connolly between 2004 and 2006 to funnel $200,000 in bribes in exchange for political favors. He faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.
