as House majority leader
In the aftermath of his ouster from the House Majority Leaders position, former Rep. Kevin McCarthy had some parting thoughts.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, McCarthy said he felt “disappointed” and “heartbroken” about his removal from the leadership role. He said the vote to remove him was based largely on his support of then-President Donald Trump.
McCarthy also said he regrets not standing up for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) more, after she gave a speech supporting the impeachment of Donald Trump. He said he should have “done more” to stop what was happening.
Finally, McCarthy expressed hope that the GOP can reunite after this divisive episode and re-focus their efforts on taking back the majority in the 2022 midterm elections.
McCarthy said: “We will move forward, this is our Republican Party…we are going to grow it together, not separate it. We are stronger when we are unified.”
