As of early May 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet approved any coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines for use in children under 12 years of age. As a result, there is currently no availability of COVID-19 boosters for young children. Given the current limited availability of vaccines for young children, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that adults 16 and older are prioritized for the booster dose. The CDC is continuing to study the safety and effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines in children and will review any data available when making decisions to recommend use of the vaccine in younger age groups.
