Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) responded to President Trump’s criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying such comments are “terrible and not helpful.”
In an interview on Fox News, Scott said it was “not helpful” for anyone, including the president, to criticize one of America’s “closest allies,’’ especially as Israel prepares to go to the polls for a second time this year.
“Obviously, some of the comments concerning Israel and its leader, the Prime Minister, the criticism, that’s terrible and not helpful,” Scott said. “It has a tendency to divide us, and at a time when we need to be unified, especially standing up for one of our closest allies, it’s important that we all work together.”
Scott also said he was confident that the Israel-U.S. relationship “remains solid’’ after the elections, regardless of the outcome.
