Coca-Cola recently deleted language from its website supporting the Black Lives Matter movement after U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) called out a company employee’s pro-Hamas post.
The post, written by a global diversity and inclusion specialist at Coca-Cola, stated “It’s important to stand in solidarity with Palestinians who endure the Israeli Occupation.” Senator Cruz deemed the post unacceptable and called on the company to address its implication of supporting a terror group.
In response, Coca-Cola deleted the post and removed language from its website stating support for protests against “systemic racism.” A spokesperson for the company said that the post was not “a reflection of the company’s views” and that the company is “committed to the world in which we live.”
The move to remove language from its website has been strongly criticized, with some accusing Coca-Cola of “abandoning” the Black community. It remains to be seen whether the company will face backlash for its decision.
