Former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis has pleaded guilty in the Georgia election interference case, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Ellis, who served as former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, entered the plea on June 4. She is alleged to have been part of a scheme to intimidate Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
In a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ellis acknowledged her role in the scheme and expressed regret for her actions: “I take full responsibility for that mistake and I regret it, and I deeply apologize. I have come to understand that some of the language I used was inappropriate and wrong. I accept the consequences for my actions and am ready to move on.”
Ellis’s plea follows the criminal convictions of her co-defendant Lyle Madison, who received a sentence of eight years and a $250,000 fine for his role in the plot.
If Ellis is found guilty, she could face up to three years in prison and a potential $250,000 fine. In addition, she could lose her Georgia attorney’s license.
This case is still ongoing.
