According to cybersecurity specialists at SlowMist, Chinese-speaking hackers are now using Skype’s messaging and video conferencing app to target cryptocurrency users. The hackers are impersonating customer service representatives and leveraging social engineering tactics to dupe users into sending their crypto funds to bogus addresses. The scam was first noticed in news comments and discussion threads, where individuals contacted users and directed them to complete transactions through Skype. The scammer claims to represent an exchange but then requests that payment be made to an external address.
