New Jersey governor Chris Christie insisted on Tuesday that there has been no “rise” of antisemitism in the United States, rather there has only been an “unmasking” of the existing levels of anti-Semitism. “I don’t think there has been a rise of anti-Semitism,” said Christie, “I think what we’ve seen is an unmasking of anti-Semitism that’s been there for a very long time. And I think that what’s happened here is that now more people feel free to express it publicly in a way that they may have not felt comfortable doing in the past.” He went on to say that this kind of “bigotry and prejudice and horrible words” should not be tolerated in any form.
