The Manhattan District Attorney has opened an investigation into allegations that New York City Mayor Eric Adams and a female NYPD staff member, who previously worked together, had inappropriate physical contact on multiple occasions. The allegations were first reported on April 22, 2021 by the New York Post.
Adams strongly denies the accusations and says that the allegations against him are false and without merit. The mayor’s attorney, Randy M. Mastro, released a statement saying: “The allegations made in the press today about Mayor Eric Adams are false and skewed. Mayor Adams has never sexually assaulted or attempted to sexually assault anyone. This anonymous person’s false story is nothing more than a political smear.”
Adams and the woman had reportedly worked together in the past, and the accuser told her superiors that she felt uncomfortable and feared for her safety. Adams and his lawyer have declined to comment further and the Mayor is cooperating with the investigation.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office declined to comment on the investigation. The New York City Department of Investigation is also looking into the accusations. It is unclear how long the investigation will take to complete.
