1. Rand Paul’s Name-Calling – In a last-ditch effort to differentiate himself from the rest of the GOP field, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul unleashed a slew of personal attacks and name-calling at the debate. After former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee told Paul “to stop telling untruths,” Paul responded with “You don’t have to be deceptive if you don’t want to. That’s just your problem.”
2. Jeb Bush’s Jab at Donal Trump- Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush delivered one of the more memorable moments of the night when he challenged Donald Trump, saying “You know what, Mr. Trump?” Bush asked. “You can’t insult your way to the presidency.”
3. Marco Rubio vs. Ted Cruz- The two Senator were engaged in a heated exchange over their immigration policies when Rubio accused Cruz of switching positions on the issue. “It is quite remarkable to see Ted Cruz, who used to say one thing and now says another,” Rubio said in one jab.
4. Ben Carson vs. The Moderator – When CNN moderator Jerry Baker tried to cut off Ben Carson’s allotted time, the former neurosurgeon refused to be silenced. “I ignore the clock,” Carson said, drawing a roar from the crowd.
5. Donald Trump vs. Jeb Bush- The two former Governor kept things civil throughout much of the debate until Trump accused Bush of misrepresenting his position on illegal immigration and suggested he was to blame for the mess in Iraq. Bush fired back that he was “sick and tired” of Trump trying to “insult his way to the White House.”
