The gag order in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol case was reinstated on Wednesday, though in a narrowed form. The U.S. District Court judge overseeing the case, Dabney Friedrich, rescinded her earlier order that barred those involved from discussing the case publicly, saying the government had “not proven it was necessary”. She did, however, prohibit defense lawyers, their teams and anyone associated with them from talking to media organizations about “explaining or characterizing” the evidence or any witness’s testimony, or factoring of any participant in the events of Jan. 6 outside the courtroom. Friedrich did indicate that she was willing to modify the order with more input from attorneys in the case.
