After years of contentious labor negotiations, Southwest Airlines and its pilots’ union have reached a preliminary agreement for a new labor contract. The deal, which is expected to be ratified by the union’s more than 8,000 members later this year, would give the airline’s pilots an immediate 25% pay raise along with additional benefits. It would also end the nearly four-year labor dispute between the two sides. The deal was reached after intense and prolonged bargaining between the two sides, and still needs the approval of the union’s membership. If ratified, the agreement would bring some stability to the airline and its more than 58,000 employees, as well as its loyal customers.
