House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has been diagnosed with a type of blood cancer, according to media reports.
Scalise, a Republican from Louisiana, was hospitalized in June 2017 for a gunshot wound to his hip. It was later discovered that he had suffered what doctors described as “significant internal organ damage” from the shooting.
The cancer diagnosis is unrelated to the shooting, according to reports. Scalise is reportedly receiving treatment for the cancer and is expected to make a full recovery.
Scalise is currently in the process of forming a new leadership team in the House of Representatives and is expected to remain on the job.
