Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced on Tuesday a major investment in the state’s high speed internet infrastructure totaling $386 million. The funds will come from a portion of the more than $1.5 billion in federal coronavirus relief funding approved in March and will be used to update and expand broadband services across rural areas of the state. The new infrastructure will help provide residents with access to quality internet services. This investment will help close the digital divide in Kentucky and replace aging copper networks with fiber optics. This will bring much needed access to educators and employers around the state who rely on the internet for their work. The investment will also allow businesses to expand their operations in rural areas and will help to create jobs in communities that have been left behind.
