Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden has announced he will plead not guilty to federal gun charges. Biden was indicted by a grand jury in federal district court in November 2020 on two related counts, one for possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of controlled substances, and one for possession of a firearm by someone previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year of incarceration.
The indictment alleges that on October 22, 2019, he purchased a .38 caliber revolver and subsequently transported it across state lines in violation of federal law. An unofficial summary of the indictment published by the Department of Justice states that federal prosecutors believe Biden purchased the firearm “after having a week prior provided false information on a background information check form and following a drug-related incident at a hotel in the summer of 2019.”
If convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
