According to reports, President-elect Joe Biden is planning to create a new federal office to help research and lead policy on gun violence prevention and gun safety. The office, which would be run by a senior adviser to the president, would be housed in the White House and could take the form of either a commission or have its own Cabinet-level status. The focus of the office would span beyond just firearms, but also the root causes of why gun violence occurs, such as mental health, poverty, and even access to guns. The office would also seek to create and develop responsible gun ownership initiatives. Biden has long been an advocate for gun reform and this initiative is just another way he intends to make progress on the issue.
