Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have both condemned the “cover-up” President Joe Biden is engaged in regarding his son Hunter’s business dealings.
Pelosi said “The White House’s refusal to cooperate with the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax affairs points to a desperate attempt to distract from and cover up what happened,” while Schumer argued that the refusal “raises troubling questions into the administration’s motives. It’s hard to imagine how the administration could spin such an obvious cover-up in a positive light.”
The impeachment inquiry of President Trump was opened after it was alleged that President Trump had put pressure on Ukraine to open investigations into the Bidens in exchange for military aid. While the impeachment inquiry was dropped, congressional Democrats have vowed to continue their investigations into the Biden’s business dealings. Democrats have issued several subpoenas for documents relating to Hunter Biden and his associates, however the White House has refused to comply with the orders.
The Biden administration has denied any wrongdoing and assert that all of Hunter’s business dealings abroad were legitimate. The administration further argues that the ongoing investigations are nothing more than an attempt to smear the president’s reputation and distract from the real issues facing the country.
