The United Nations has been accused of engaging in “blood libel” against Israel after a report from its Human Rights Council (UNHRC) accused the Jewish state of a range of human rights abuses.
The UNHRC report claims that Israel has committed serious abuses including “arbitrary arrest, unlawful killings, excessive force, restrictions on freedom of expression, assembly and association, and prosecutors’ unwillingness to hold security forces accountable.”
The accusation sparked outrage in the Israeli government and some leading Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). ADL CEO and National Director Jonathan Greenblatt said the report was a “flagrant attempt to engage in a modern-day form of blood libel against Israel.”
This is far from the first time the UN has been accused of bias against Israel. Over the years, the Jewish state has faced numerous resolutions criticizing its conduct, while other countries accused of similar or worse human rights abuses have been given a free pass.
The UN has long been accused of having an anti-Israel bias, and this latest report has only heightened the tension between the organization and the Jewish State. Israeli officials have responded to the report by accusing the UNHRC of being biased and using the allegations to delegitimize Israel and demonize its people. This incident is the latest in a long history of alleged bias against the Jewish State by the UN, and it appears that the rift is far from being resolved.
