Recent polling numbers have indeed shown a decline in support for former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States. According to a June 23 poll from Quinnipiac University, Biden’s lead over his Republican rival, Donald Trump, has fallen to 7 points, compared to a lead of 12 points only a month prior. His unfavorable rating among registered voters has also increased from 33 percent in May to 40 percent in the most recent survey. His favorable rating, on the other hand, has decreased from 47 percent to 45 percent. Another survey by Politico and Morning Consult found a similar trend, with Biden’s lead over Trump dropping from 10 points to 8 points in the same time period.
That said, it is still too early to determine where the race stands in light of the recent polls. Both candidates still have a great deal of time to make their case to voters ahead of November’s election, and many will likely wait until the summer is over before they begin to make any final decisions. Additionally, much of Biden’s support is concentrated among African-American, Hispanic, and millennial voters–all of whom are likely to become increasingly engaged in the election as it draws closer. For now, it is difficult to be certain of any outcome, and Biden supporters should continue to do all they can to support the candidate and ensure a Democratic victory.
