In a new advertisement from the National Republican Congressional Committee, House Republicans criticize Democrats’ immigration policies for turning national parks into makeshift tent cities for migrants and refugees.
The ad, entitled “ National Park Crises,” uses AI-generated imagery to paint a disturbing picture of what could happen if Democrats have their way on immigration. The video features a family, a mixture of young children and adults, who are camping out in the barren environment of the national park due to the Democrats’ policies.
The NRCC has described the ad as a wake-up call and has urged viewers to take action against the Democrats’ “left-wing immigration policies.” They argue that if Democrats were given their way, these parks would be filled with “makeshift” refugee housing, overcrowding the parks and damaging the environment.
The NRCC’s ad looks to capitalize on heightened tensions over immigration and capitalizes on the recent controversy surrounding the Trump Administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy. The powerful imagery and emotive language of the advertisement has sparked an outcry from democrats, who say that the NRCC’s claims are sensationalized and out of touch with the reality of the situation.
In response, many public figures and organizations have decried the advertisement for fear-mongering and using AI-generated imagery for political gain. They argue that it contributes to a negative political environment and that those affected by U.S. immigration policies deserve better.
