President Donald Trump maintains a massive lead among his Republican colleagues if the 2024 presidential primary were held today, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows.
Trump garnered 66 percent support among Republican voters in a hypothetical Republican primary, according to the poll. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley garnered 12 percent support, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis garnered 12 percent, tying Haley for second place. This is the first time Haley has tied DeSantis in the poll in more than a year.
Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley has enjoyed an uptick in support over the last few months, with Republican primary voters touting her as a possible alternative to Trump. The poll showed that Republican voters still remain divided on their opinions of Haley, with 44 percent viewing her favorably and 44 percent viewing her unfavorably. DeSantis, meanwhile, is viewed favorably by 61 percent of Republicans and unfavorably by 24 percent.
The poll also found that Republican voters are largely supportive of Trump’s actions as President, with 72 percent saying they approve of his job performance and 24 percent disapproving.
The poll comes just weeks before the 2022 midterms, in which Republicans will seek to defend their control of both chambers of Congress.
