A Privacy Advocate recently exposed that the popular cryptocurrency trading and tracking startup Ledger Live was tracking user data and network activity without notifying users. Ledger Live is a popular platform amongst cryptocurrency traders and those looking to track their portfolio.
The Privacy Advocate was able to identify application programming interface calls to third-party services that were not required and were harvesting data related to user activities such as logging in, interactions, and personal information. Ledger Live responded to the expose by admitting that they were tracking such data and said that they had removed the calls to the third-party services and maintained that their user data is “safe and secure”.
Ledger Live had not previously provided any warning about their tracking practices, which raises concern about user data security and privacy. It is becoming increasingly important for organizations that track user data to be transparent about their practices and to provide adequate warnings about the use of such data. This recent expose has caused investors and cryptocurrency traders to be wary of using Ledger Live until more information about its practices are revealed.
