Trump to skip GOP debate in Iowa, hold competing town hall

    • January 3, 2024
    • admin
US President Donald Trump will not be participating in the last Republican presidential debate in Iowa before the Iowa Caucus, opting instead to hold a competing town hall event on the same night. The president announced his decision on Twitter, saying he did not want to be “used” or “treated badly” by the Republican National Committee (RNC). The president has been feuding with the RNC for months, and the decision not to participate in the debate appears to be the latest salvo in that feud. The February 6th debate, scheduled for the same night as Trump’s town hall event, is being organized by the conservative media outlet Newsmax. It will also feature former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The decision not to participate in the debate comes after Trump refused to attend the last Republican primary debate, which was hosted by Fox News. He instead held a rally in Washington, DC on the same night. Trump will likely face criticism for his decision, as the Iowa Caucus is just three days before the state’s February 3rd primary. The Democratic National Committee has already pulled its own debate from February 8th in New Hampshire over concerns about the lack of access for minority candidates. This could be used as further evidence that Trump is attempting to subvert the later stages of the Republican primary process.
