House Republicans plan to grill Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious-disease expert, about his role in the government’s COVID-19 response, the origins of the virus, and measures to prevent future pandemics.
The hearing, set for Wednesday evening, will be the first time the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has appeared before a GOP-led hearing.
Fauci, whose calm, science-based advice has largely won the praise of both parties, is likely to face questions about the origins of the coronavirus and China’s role in the initial outbreak.
He could also be asked to offer his thoughts on the government’s current response, and whether he believes preventative steps should be taken in the future to avoid another pandemic.
The hearing could also focus on the deployment of vaccines, the effectiveness of wearing masks to prevent transmission, and what the Trump administration did to stop the spread of the virus.
